Blagoevgrad
Located in the southwest of Bulgaria Blagovgrad covers an area of appoximately 628km2 and includes 25 villages as well as Blagoevgrad. The Bulgarian mountains of Rila, Pirin and Rhodopes are sitauted in Blagoevgrad and are three of the largest mountains in Bulgaria - this area is know as the Pirin region. There is easy acces to Sofia the capital of Bulgaria, which is approximately 100km to the north. There are routes to Greece and the Republic of Macedonia that pass through the region of Blagoevgrad and the city of Blagoevgrad is the major city in the region and important to the economic and cultural development in southwest of Bulgaria.
A picturesque region with the beautiful mountain range known as "Pirin" which inlcudes the mountains of Rila, Pirin and Rhodopes. The landscape is varied and beautiful and is characterised by its unique geographic location, physical beauty of the surrounding mountains, and rich flora and fauna. The region around Blagoevgrad has lots of lakes and rivers providing the region with pure, fresh spring water. The names of the local rivers Bistritsa, Glazene, Struma and Mesta echo in the songs and the folklore of the region.
